Windowless bathrooms and hallways are not a permanent home for any living plant. If you do place plants in these areas, moving them to a brighter room every few weeks will prevent them from weakening.

What are the easiest houseplants for beginners?

Most plants die not from neglect, but from over-care. Watering them only a little every day keeps the roots constantly wet and leads to rot. For easy-care species, the rule is: wait until the soil dries out, then water abundantly until water comes out from the bottom of the pot, and drain the excess water.

Which indoor plants should be chosen for a home with cats and dogs?

The following list is a general guideline; varieties may differ even if they share the same species name. Consult your veterinarian if your animal has chewed on a plant or if you notice symptoms such as vomiting or increased salivation.

• Those considered safer include: calathea, maranta, money plant, tillandsia, and Phalaenopsis orchid.
• Particularly risky for cats: the lily plant; its leaves, flowers, and pollen can cause serious problems for cats.
• Potentially bothersome plants include: pathos, dieffenbachia, alocasia, sanseveria, anthurium , yucca, dracena marginata, and kraton.
• Spiny and sap-producing species: cactus spines can cause injury, and the white sap of the milkweed tree (Euphorbia trigona) can cause irritation; keep these plants on a high shelf out of reach of animals.

How to Protect Houseplants in Winter and from Radiators?

In Turkish apartment buildings, the most challenging period for plants is the heating season. Radiators dry out the air, leaf tips turn brown, and the soil dries out faster than expected; however, because there is less light, the plant consumes less water. Therefore, in winter, watering should be done by checking the soil, not according to a schedule.

Keep plants away from directly above and in front of the radiator, and bring species that might get cold near the window at night (calathea, alocasia) a little inside. Grouping humidity-loving plants together will increase the humidity around them somewhat.
