Cut lilies, with proper care, usually last 7 to 14 days in a vase because their buds open sequentially. Trimming the stems crosswise, changing the water every two days, and removing the pollen grains from opened flowers will prolong their life and prevent spotting.
- Trim the stems and place them in water. Make 2–3 cm cross cuts and remove any leaves that remain submerged.
- Remove the pollen grains. Once the flower opens, gently remove the orange pollen sacs with a tissue; pollen can leave permanent stains on fabric and petals.
- Water regularly. Change the water every two days; remove wilted flowers from the base of the stem so that new buds can open.
- Place the potted lily in a bright spot. Protect it from direct midday sun, water when the top layer of soil is dry, and do not leave water in the saucer.
- Be careful with pets. All parts of the lily are poisonous to cats; choose another flower if sending it to homes with cats.
