What to Look For When Choosing an Orchid?

The best-selling models are two-stemmed blue orchids and simple white orchids . Two-stemmed orchids are more suitable as a gift for a tabletop, while models with eight or more stems are better suited for a living room or opening ceremony.

How to Care for Orchids, and How Often Should They Be Watered?

1. Lighting: Choose a location near an east or west-facing window, such as behind a sheer curtain, that receives bright but indirect light. The midday sun can burn the leaves.
2. Watering: Water when the roots in the clear pot turn silvery gray. The safest method is to submerge the pot in water for 10-15 minutes and let it drain completely; do not leave water at the bottom.
3. Temperature: Keep away from radiators, air conditioners, and drafts from doors.
4. Humidity: Do not spray water on the flowers, as it may stain them. In dry weather, simply place the pot on a saucer filled with pebbles and water.
5. Fertilizer and soil: Orchids do not thrive in normal soil; they grow in a pine bark medium. Adding a special liquid fertilizer for orchids to the watering water once a month is sufficient.

How many months or years does a potted orchid live?

After the flowers have fallen, check the condition of the stem. If the stem is green, cutting it 1–2 cm above the second or third node from the bottom can help it to produce side branches. If the stem has yellowed and dried out, cut it off at the base; the orchid will only develop leaves and roots for a while.

New flowering shoots usually emerge in the fall, when nighttime temperatures drop a few degrees below daytime temperatures. Once the roots begin to grow out of the pot, after flowering is complete, you can repot the orchid into a larger pot with fresh bark. Tinted blue orchids often bloom with their natural white color in subsequent flowerings.
