Short answer
Houseplants are grouped into three categories based on their leaf structure: those with long, slender leaves (yucca, marginata, dracena, sanseveria), those with large, broad leaves (alocasia, dieffenbachia, calathea orbifolia, kraton), and trailing or climbing varieties (pathos). For those who want flowers, orchids and anthuriums also look good indoors.
| houseplant | Appearance | Light | Irrigation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yucca | Long, slender leaves and trunk; resembles a houseplant. | Plenty of bright light | When the soil dries out completely, sparsely |
| Marginata and Dracena | Thin leaves with red edges, upright stem. | Bright, indirect | When the topsoil dries out |
| Money flower (Pachira) | Braided stem, hand-shaped leaves | Bright, indirect | When the topsoil dries out |
| Pathos (ivy) | Drooping, heart-shaped leaves | Medium light; tolerant of low light. | Around once a week |
| Dieffenbachia | Large, variegated leaves | Medium light | The soil is slightly moist. |
| Calathea orbifolia | Round, striped broad leaves | Moderate light, no direct sun. | The soil is slightly moist, the air is humid. |
| Alocasia Polly (elephant ear) | Arrow-shaped leaves with prominent veins. | Bright, indirect | When the topsoil dries out |
| Kraton | Red, orange, yellow leaves | Plenty of light | The soil is slightly moist. |
| Sanseverya | Upright, sword-shaped leaves | From low light to high light | Every 2-3 weeks |
Short answer
Yucca, croton, and olive trees are ideal houseplants for rooms directly in front of windows and south-facing living rooms; marginata, dracena, money plant, and orchids are suitable for bright areas a few meters inside from the window; and sanseveria and pathos are best suited for corners with less light. Watering intervals should be extended as light decreases.
The most common mistake when choosing a houseplant is placing it to match the decor and ignoring the light. The rule is simple: if you can see the sky from where the plant is located, that's bright enough for most leafy plants. Direct midday sun, however, can burn the delicate leaves of plants like calathea and alocasia; keep these species behind sheer curtains.
Radiator vents, air conditioner air outlets, and constantly opening and closing balcony doors are the riskiest places for houseplants. Sudden temperature changes lead to leaf drop and drying out of the edges.
If you want to fill an empty corner in a large room with a single plant, look for stemmed or large-leaved varieties. Three yucca and three marginata in sandy concrete pots are the most vertical models that give the appearance of a houseplant. Large dieffenbachia, alocasia, and calathea orbifolia, on the other hand, create volume horizontally with their large leaves.
If you're looking for a flowering but showy houseplant, arrangements of 50 cm large anthuriums with 8-20 stems are a good alternative. For smaller spaces, you can find tabletop options on our terrarium and cactus pages.
Short answer
Most houseplants thrive easily as long as they are watered when the top 2–3 cm of soil is dry, receive bright but indirect light, and avoid waterlogging at the bottom of the pot. Watering intervals should be extended in winter as growth slows. Keeping the saucer dry is the most effective way to prevent root rot; wiping the leaves once a month also helps the plant utilize light more effectively.

As of October 7, 2026, RoseBox offers 119 houseplants priced between 895 TL and 25,840 TL; the hydrangea costs 3,190 TL. Single green plants are in the most economical group, while multi-branched orchid arrangements are in the most expensive group.
Sansevieria and pathos are among the best houseplants tolerating low light. However, a completely dark corner is not suitable for any plant; as light decreases, watering should also be reduced.
With their long stems, yucca and marginata, with their patterned broad leaves, calathea orbifolia and alocasia, and kraton with its colorful leaves are among the most eye-catching plants in the living room. All are presented in pots in RoseBox.
Dieffenbachia, Alocasia Polly, Calathea orbifolia, and Croton are large-leaved houseplants. These plants, with their large leaves, can fill a corner of the living room all by themselves. Wiping their large leaves with a damp cloth once a month will help maintain their shine.
Most houseplants are watered when the top 2–3 cm of soil is dry; this usually means once a week in summer and every 10–15 days in winter. Sansevieria and yucca require less frequent watering.
Not all of them. Pathos, dieffenbachia, alocasia, sanseveria, yucca, dracena, and kraton can cause discomfort in cats and dogs. Calathea, maranta, money plant, and orchids are generally considered safer.
Orders placed before 5 PM in Istanbul's 39 districts are delivered by hand the same day. For other cities, delivery times will be shown during the ordering process depending on the address. Payments are processed securely via a 256-bit SSL certified infrastructure.
